The Low Down on Fashions for Summer 2010...

To sum up it is basically bright, nostalgic and femine with an edge.

COLOURS

This summer's basic is white with black and then brights  - lime, coral, turquoise, red, gray in all shades, hot pink and a little bit of purple. There are lots of play with European colour style so white with beige, white with slate and there are some neutrals out there and a great deal of nude - a colour that in our opinion should be reserved for underwear but is totally big for outer wear.

FABRICS

Easy care is still with us and will do well for Spring and the travel/work no iron. But the big summer cloth is linen - no sweat as it is crushed and resists your iron.

Fabrics continue to be enhanced by the burgeoning technology which makes them easier to care for and pack into a small bag.

Spots are the big look for this year and all sorts of florals and abtracts prints. Prints are creeping back to pants.

STYLING

For the 25+ the styling is  still relaxed but detailed  - shorter (below knee just skirts) and nearly all 3/4 - 7/8 pants in both block colours and smaller prints and you guessed it spots.

Dresses and tunics are still the big statement. So get your keep leggings and meshes and short sleeve tops for under the tunics.  There are a lot of matching tunics and leggings. Many of the dresses are still maxi  - so this is a style that is here to stay for a bit for summer.

Skirts can be any length from minis to ankle. Same for pants from shorts through slinky capris to wide leg palazzo styles. THe trend for bottoms is quite full with more pants and over shirts a la Banana Blue.

Necklines are still with the v and quite décolleté sometimes requiring a bandeau or some lace bra or cami but there is the resurfacing of the low square for necklines - not really a great look for many people.

ACCESSORIES

The big accessories are belts on maxis and huge hats that stop the sun cancers. Scarves are still used as necklaces and the big statement is the fixed or detatchable beads on t-tops or any tops of garments for that matter.

Jewellery is still silver rather than gold with still with lots of cocktail rings and long necklaces. There is a huge resurgence for pearls and black with silver - not much colour except for red.

Summer is once again very flattering and moving with the watershed of easier dressing so those of you who are classic will be hard pressed to get an array of choice but if you have moved onto tunics and leggings you will be in heavan. It's a quite theatrical summer evoking times past so you can play at a lot of your favourite characters from previous fashion eras.
